Mookerjee gave his life for J&K, BJP may give away it | Alarming situation | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 31: Reports emanating from different parts of the Valley clearly suggest that the situation in the Valley is alarming and the chances are that it might worsen further. The state police said so and acknowledged that the situation in Kashmir today is what it was on July 8, when dreaded terrorist Burhan Wani was killed by the security forces in an encounter. There are reasons to believe that situation in Kashmir would further worsen. One is the direction to the Kashmiri Muslims issued by Lashkar-e-Toiba that they must obey the diktats of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. The other is direction to the Kashmiri employees and civil society members in Kashmir to directly participate in the ongoing anti-India movement. The third is the unwillingness of New Delhi to intervene to retrieve the situation. The first two reasons are quite understandable because Pakistan, Lashkar and similar other outfits, including their conduits in Kashmir, believe that now is the time to strike and get Kashmir out of India. These factors can be taken care of provided the army and paramilitary forces are given a free hand for about a week like Pakistan has given a freehand to its army to deal with the situation in Balochistan and other restive parts of Pakistan. It is the third reason that is very disturbing. The Prime Minister has till date not uttered a word on the Kashmir situation. What the Home Minister said in the Parliament and in Srinagar was not at all inspiring and encouraging. He spoke the language of the opposition, which was, and is, on the other side. The defence Minister has not said anything that could give the nation to understand that his ministry meant business in Kashmir. The Foreign Minister has also chosen not to speak for reasons best known to her. It is just the RSS and the BJP spokespersons who have been speaking and what they have been speaking only suggest that New Delhi under Narendra Modi could retreat from Jammu and Kashmir. The last two days witnessed interventions of the BJP and RSS spokespersons and the statement by a senior BJP minister in Jammu and Kashmir that terrorist Burhan Wani's killing was just an accident. Earlier, CM Mehbooba Mufti had said had the security forces knew that Burhan Wani was also among the hold up terrorists, the security forces could have given him a "chance". But the BJP minister went several steps ahead and termed the killing of Burhan Wani accidental. All these interventions and statements have led many to believe that "SP Mookerjee gave his life for Jammu and Kashmir and the RSS-BJP combine may give away the state itself". The belief appears well-founded when viewed in the context of the manner in which the Union Government has been dealing with the Kashmir situation since several months now. It has been watching the situation as a mute spectator and the result is that the situation is deteriorating by the day and minorities in the state feeling insecure, unprotected and completely abandoned. |
