Oops! Naeem Akhter admits his cavalcade was stoned | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 31: Even as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has been trying hard to "downplay" reports of mob attacks on its cadres, the government spokesman and Education Minister Naeem Akhter this evening candidly admitted that his cavalcade was targeted by stone-pelters. Naeem Akhter made the confession in a "poetical post" on his Facebook page saying "Only those friends with a sense of poetry can appreciate." He started his satire with anecdote when was a government official. "In 1979 I was posted to police headquarters. DN Kaul was the police chief. Mr Kaul was more of a scholarship than a copy. His tenure was marked by strife in entire state even though Sheikh Abdullah was ruling the State. He had a great taste for English literature and Urdu poetry," Naeem said. "At a meeting called for reviewing law and order Mr GH Kirmani the SSP Srinagar complained of lack of Shields against stone pelting. True to his character Kaul saheb quoted Allama Iqbal's lines: Tu bacha bacha ke na rakkh isey tera aaeena hai woh aaeena, Jo shikasta ho toa aziz tar hai nigah e aaeena saz mein," the government spokesman added. "Recalled the couplet yesterday when I was caught in a stone pelting incident tackled by the police escorting me. Only those friends with a sense of poetry can appreciate," Akhter said. Pertinently, mobs attacked Education minister's cavalcade at two separate places on Saturday in Bandipora district. The protesters attacked his convoy with stones at Dangerpora and Shilwat, a police official said. Sources said the party wanted to downplay the matter but that Akhter spilled the beans on social media. "Since the day the unrest erupted in Kashmir, we have been seriously trying to downplay any mob attacks on our leadership or other cadres and at times even request our friends in media not to carry such news lest it sends a wrong notion among public circles who actually love us from the core of their hearts, but he (Naeem) has a different stand," said a PDP leader asking not to be identified. |
