Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 31: Sending into complete disarray the ethics of education of the state, a lecturer in district Rajouri stooped to all time low while fleecing the students into a honeytrap asking them to shell money to get promoted into next grade.
This would not have been revealed until the poor and hapless students of Government Higher Secondary School Taryath who were not able to pay the bribe demanded by the lecturer failed in the eleventh class examination and raised a hue and cry against the lecturer.
Harjeet Sharma, the said lecturer of Government Higher Secondary School Taryath , who enjoys his prized posting in the same school since more than ten years, took nearly 35 students of class XI of the school with an assurance that he would get them fairly passed in the 2015-16 examination into class XII, provided he is paid Rs 1000 per student.
The students, who could manage the demanded bribe, gave Harjeet Sharma the required money and to their astonishment, all got passed through the eleventh examination and joined the class XII.
This led to the prevailing of the uneasy calm among the poor students of class eleventh who could not pay the 'bribe' and were rendered failed in the examination.
The whispering campaign by these failed students against the lecturer Harjeet Sharma turned into shrieking echoes and the lecturer came under the scanner of the Early Times.
The news story does not only ends here. This school in Taryath, Government Higher Secondary School in its recent admissions for class XI also conducted an unfair practice that brought this school under the limelight.
A total fee of a government high school is Rs 640/- per student while this school under the patronage of the same Harjeet Sharma have been taking Rs 1060/- per student without giving any reason as to why the school was overcharging the amount. The total strength of the class XI students seeking admission in the school is 90.
The students when tried to gain establishment with administration of the other schools cam to know that their school (Govt High School Taryath) was charging Rs 420/- extra per soul.
This was also main cause of the whisper murmuring combined with the students passed in class eleventh that led to total chaos and disarray of the system which led the Early Times reporter reach the school administration for a query on such unfair trade.
Talking to the Principal Barkat Hussain of the school, everything turned out to be crystal clear.
"Yes after receiving the complaints from the students as well reports from different quarters, I have come to know that Harjeet Sharma has been doing this illegal practice," said Barkat Hussain.
He also acknowledged that same lecturer even have overcharged the amount of money from the candidates seeking enrolment in class eleventh and have been a regular bribe taker from the students.
When asked as to why school management did not take up his case with the education department or the higher authorities, Barkat Husssain gave a vey guarded statement.
" I have taken this man to task on my own. If any enquiry would be initiated against him, this will lead to total dismemberment of the school management. I will also not be spared, so I fear sending him to the enquiry," said Barkat Hussain .
He however called up Harjeet Sharma and immediately got Rs 24, 000 from his possession which he had taken from the students.
It is pertinent to mention here that Harjeet Sharma a close cousin of one of the senior NC leaders of the area and have close association with many NC leaders and MLAs.
The parents of the students when came to know that no departmental enquiry would be conducted , they have raised their voice to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take a personnel cognizance of the issue and initiate a vigilance enquiry into the case.
It is pertinent to mention that sources claim that the Education Minister too has the knowledge of such illegal activity going in this school, but why his ministery has kept the eyes closed is better known to him only.
