Dilapidated condition of Bhaderwah roads expose claims of successive governments

Early Times Report

Bhaderwah, Aug 8: Even as all political leaders included of BJP , Congress and PDP are making tall claims of making Bhaderwah town as a tourist hub, however, the dilapidated conditions of most of the interior roads including some of the major ones for quite some time deflates the declaration since poor basic infrastructure can never make a Bhaderwah a 'dream tourist destination'.
While most of the legislators in present and previous years advocate tourism promotion in Bhaderwah but even after assuming power in the state all failed to live up to the expectations of the Bhaderwah people who were given a whole lot of promises to augment the tourism sector.
From the last so many years all MLAs from Bhaderwah gave assurance that Bhaderwah town will be developed as a major tourist hub but legislators must be told that until and unless the basic infrastructure like roads are not improved such announcements will remain insignificant.
Leaders need to put in some serious as well as concerted efforts to improve the deteriorating thoroughfares within the town.
The condition of most of the internal roads in Bhaderwah is pathetic. Bad roads make it difficult to drive on certain stretches particularly when one hits various portions on Sartingal Bheja road which is under the possession of PMGSY and Bhaderwah Sartingal and Sartingal Nalthi road which no less than a hell.
Because of the delay in repair of roads, the commuters have no other option but to avoid them in order to keep their vehicles free from developing faults. Apart from the severely potholed condition of the roads, the Bhaderwah residents also suffer from growing traffic that has made the roads congested, while indiscriminate parking of vehicles on both sides of the roads from Sartingal to Seri Bazaar and Seri Bazaar to Pasri bus stand has added to their woes.
During rains, the dilapidated roads turn into cesspools. Not only has this had the travel on 30 kilometer long Bhaderwah-Doda road become arduous and cumbersome for passengers as the road is dotted with potholes.
"The frequent travelers on the route, have started facing serious backache and other health problems as the drivers many times hit these potholes on high speed," the Bhaderwah residents said adding that many persons had been advised by doctors not to undertake the journey as it would aggravate their problem due to the criminal negligence of GREF 114 RCC in whose possession is the same road.
The commuters said many mishaps occurred on the road as the drivers were trying to avoid the potholes.
"Our vehicles suffer extensive damage due to the poor road condition and have to sent them for repairs quite often," the Sumo owners told this media person adding the concerned officials of GREF 114 RCC hadn't done anything substantial despite repeated pleas were made about the road repairs. The passengers have also complained of dust pollution on the road saying it had also resulted in serious health complications in certain persons allergic to dust.
"The dust raised from these potholes has also become a pollution source causing further inconvenience to the travelers," they said. The locals and drivers, whose vehicles are plying on the highway, have accused the BEACON of turning blind eye towards the dilapidated road condition and of bridges on the same road especially at Amira Nagar where bridge is in deteriorating condition but instead of that GREF 114 RCC authorities failed to construct or repair the same bridge.
