Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 8: The governance in the already perturbed state of Jammu and Kashmir has taken a back seat and miseries of the common people have multiplied as their day to day issues are not being addressed in the ongoing turmoil that has engulfed the valley for over a month now. The applications of the common people, files pertaining to public woes, decisions related to the state's welfare are all in unison gathering dust at the civil Secretariat here which virtually has turned into a most desolated structure in the entire Kashmir valley. People who before the onset of the unrest had approached the government offices with various pleas ranging from transfers to appointments and from repairing of roads to the disbursement of GP fund cases are all in unison kept in limbo. "The functioning of the government has come to the grinding halt and someone has to come forward to resolve the crises which are only mounting on the governance front in JK," said Syed Lateef, a social worker. According to sources within the government, there are no less than eight thousand vital cases of employees who are at the verge of superannuation, pending before the government. Similarly, in the government offices that have direct public dealing, cases pertaining to day to day issues of common people are only piling up with their addressal turning out to be a distant dream at present. "We have complaints related to the erratic power supplies from some areas, applications for the water connections are in limbo, there are people who had complained about problems in the drainage systems in various areas. We haven't been able to resolve any due to the prevailing situation. If similar scenes are witnessed in coming dates, we will have serious crises on ground in the offing," said a senior employee wishing anonymity. The government found itself in a tight spot when the separatists asked the government employees not to attend duties and be the part of the present unrest. In the recently issued protest calendar, the 'united' Hurriyat asked youth to foil any attempts by the government if it calls its employees for attending duties. It even asks youth to block roads towards the government offices. "They have to understand that the government doesn't work for any political party- it works for the people and it is answerable to them," says a netizen Aamir Mantoo while to Huriyat's call that asked government employees to boycott duties. In the similar way the ministers and senior bureaucrats of the present regime are enjoying their day out and they could be found spending time inside their government fortified bungalows- either watching TV or playing with their children and grandchildren. |
