Residents attack PDA demolition squad, CEO escapes unhurt

Anantnag, Aug 8: Stalling demolition drive of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), angry Pahalgam residents on Monday stoned demolition squad at Ragward Pahalgam and damaged CEO's vehicle.
Chief Executive Officer of Pahalgam Development Authority, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani had a narrow escape in the attack, reports said.
PDA's demolition squad, which has so far demolished around six illegally raised structures at tourist spot Pahalgam, was in the area to demolish a structure raised by a resident working with CID department.
Official reports said that as soon as PDA employees attempted to demolition the structure, residents made frequent announcements on loudspeaker from nearby Masjid and asked people to come out on road.
One of the resident, they said, who allegedly instigated the mob to hurl stones on demolition squad is working in Municipal Committee Pahalgam. Residents pelted stones during which Chief Executive Officer's vehicles got damaged, however he himself escaped unhurt. Fallowing the attack, demolition drive was called off. Municipal Committee Pahalgam and Police was also part of the demolition squad
Chief Executive Officer of Pahalgam Development Authority, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani blamed land mafia for the attack. "We are well aware of the intentions of land mafia but PDA will not allow any sort of violations. FIR has been registered against six offenders and has recommended police to register cases against six more," he said.
CEO said that miscreants during last 30 days have attempted to put PDA's toll post on fire so that the construction material ferried in Pahalgam were Honorable High Court is imposed a blanket ban on constructions.
He informed Early Times that PDA had earlier demolished six structures raised during past three weeks
Early Times had earlier exposed how influential were taking undue advantage of unrest and raising structures in violations of High Court directive.
