Govt assures full legal support to accused Police officer | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 8: With a local court here having sought registration of FIR against Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shaheed Gunj, for alleged cold-blooded murder of youth in Tengpora locality here on July 18, the state government is understood to have assured of all possible legal support to the accused cop even in the Supreme Court. Highly placed sources said the officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police were unnerved by the orders of a local court seeking registration of FIR against the DSP. Sources said the police officials had expressed displeasure should the government fail to come to the rescue of the accused cop. The government had subsequently moved High Court in support of the accused. Though the High Court dismissed the petition, the government again plans to move the High Court as the Chief Judicial Magistrate has sought registration of the FIR. Sources said the police had conveyed to the higher ups that the cops would feel discouraged if the young official was booked for "trying his level best to the restore law and order" in the Valley on boil sinceJuly 8, when militant commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed. It was reliably learnt that government assured all possible legal assistance to save Qadri from being booked for murder. Insiders said Police have been assured that the government would fight for the cause of the young police official to get him exonerated. Sources said the government has asked the Advocate General Jahangir Iqbal Ganie to prepare a strong case in defense of the DSP even if it means to hire leading lawyers from across the country. Meanwhile as police failed to comply with the court orders with regard to Tengapora killing, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar Masrat Shaeen Monday referred contempt proceedings against the IGP Kashmir and SSP Srinagar to High Court. "Reference is made to the Hon'ble High Court of J&K with the prayer for taking action under Contempt of Courts Act against the contemnors namely SSP Srinagar and IGP Kashmir in order to uphold the Majesty of law and in order to get the orders of the Court implemented. As the SSP Srinagar and IGP Kashmir have appeared before the Court as such they are directed to furnish the bail and personal bonds for an amount of Rupees One lakh each with one surety. SSP Srinagar and IGP Kashmir have furnished the requisite bail and personal bonds which are attested and accepted with the direction to cause their appearance before the Hon'ble High Court of J&K at Srinagar on 9 August this month for facing contempt proceedings," the court of CJM in its order said on Monday. |
