CM Mehbooba meets Rajnath Singh in Delhi | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 8: The union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in New Delhi on Monday. Sources said that Rajnath Singh on Monday called chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and advised her to reach the union capital. "CM had no prior plan to visit New Delhi, but sudden scheduling of the tour was made after the union home minister requested CM to visit Delhi for the meeting to discuss the steps that are needed to be taken from the central government to bring peace in the valley," sources told Early Times. They said that a meeting was convened in south block attended by the home minister, defense minister, and MOS in PMO office. It needs to be mentioned here that conflicting statements have been percolating about the state of affairs of the local government and the government at Centre. The chief minister heading the state government on a collation structure is though making lot of effort to neutralize the situation, but nothing looks to be working so far as bringing peace is concerned. Sources said that a serious concern was shown in the said meeting about the prevailing situation and to adopt a different approach which could help settling the situation. Sources said that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti presumed the current situation as a political situation and not a law and order problem. Sources said that on the other side the Prime Minister who has maintained silence over the situation would be briefed about the outcome and the roadmap would be formulated to defuse the situation. Sources said that the government is making a statement tomorrow in the parliament followed with, likely statement by the prime minister who will be breaking silence first time on Kashmir issue. Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Rajnath Singh and National security Adviser Ajit Doval to discuss ways to check violence in Kashmir. Formulating an immediate action plan to reach out to people and cool down tempers in Kashmir was high on the agenda at the meeting. While there was no word about the specific decisions taken at the meeting, Kashmir experts and observers feel that the Centre and the state government have to go for a multi-pronged action. |
