Kashmir unrest delays inauguration of Unani, Ayurvedic colleges | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 9: The ongoing turmoil in Kashmir has delayed the commissioning of Unani College Ayurvedic Medical College at Srinagar and Jammu respectively. According to sources the colleges are under construction for past over eight years after the foundation stone of two colleges was laid in 2008 by then Congress, PDP Government. However due to change of site and other problems the project suffered the initial delay, sources said. Later the funds constraint was the another major hurdle in completing the construction of two colleges well in time, sources said, adding out of the ratio shared by Central and State governments for construction of Unani and Ayurvedic colleges in the State, the Centre provided it's grant as per schedule however there was delay from State Government which due to shortage of funds could not divert the same for construction purposes, despite the fact lion's share was to be paid by the Union Government. Sources said after a long delay in arranging the funds for the building for colleges was constructed near Akhnoor in Jammu region and outskirts of Srinagar in Kashmir, however the lack of hospital facilities for both colleges resulted in further delay, sources added. To make the two colleges functional the authorities decided to use Jammu Ayurvedic Hospital for this purpose and get the same okayed from Indian Ayurvedic Council of India. The representatives of the Council had to visit the State in August for inspection and gave its nod to functioning of two colleges in the Stats. But due to ongoing unrest the same could not materialize with the result commissioning of two colleges was further delayed. |
