Mir, Azad finalize names of district presidents | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 9: The Pradesh Congress Committee president G A Mir has finalized the list of Congressmen to be accommodated as new office bearers in JKPCC. According to the sources in Congress circles, the final list, prepared by Mir in association with senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, was approved by senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad after a marathon meeting at his official residence in New Delhi. During the meeting, sources added, G A Mir presented the proposed list of newly included members in the PCC along with their designation and a separate list for the new district presidents of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Though Azad did not react on the names already included in the list, sources said he suggested a few more names to be designated as office bearers in the PCC, sources further said. As per sources, G A Mir, who was accompanied by MLA Haji Rashid and two others, sought to convince Azad that giving too much weightage to some dissidents. In fact, sources disclosed Mir had included the names of only those dissidents, who are close to former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand while Azad was particular for a few left over names. After a detailed discussion, a few inclusions and exclusion were affected in the final list. Similarly, a few changes were also made in the list of proposed district presidents, sources added. Earlier, G A Mir had called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi who advised the PCC president to take Ghulam Nabi Azad into confidence over the issue of inclusion of a few names in the Congress Committee and appointment of district presidents. AICC general secretary and Incharge J&K affairs, Ambika Soni had already given a free hand to the PCC chief for inclusion of new names in consultation with PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, sources explained. |
