Rs 6,100 burgled from SBI ATM | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Oct 9: Unknown persons last night burgled Rs 6,100 from the 'high security' SBI ATM in the posh Semna Colony here. The ATM is situated in the town's high security zone which remains guarded round the clock by CISF cops. Police sources said the burglars last night broke the rear wall of the shop housing the SBI ATM to carry out the theft. The ATM is installed in front of two CISF guarded gates in Semna Colony where over a dozen CISF cops remain on round the clock duty. The burglars entered the ATM from a 2x2 ft opening and decamped with Rs 6,100 in cash that was lying inside the rejected payment chamber. They, however, failed to break open the ATM carrying approximately Rs 18 lakh in cash. The theft was detected in the morning by some locals who brought the matter to the notice of police. A police party then rushed to the spot and seal the scene of crime and collected evidence. The ATM is situated nearly 10 to 15 ft from NHPC main gates, hosting senior officials of the NHPC, District administration, Police and the families of the non state employees. The burglary was made at a time when the state on high alert amid threats of militant attacks surgical strikes by army across the LoC in PoK. The burglars had on February 4, 2014 made an unsuccessful attempt to break open this ATM. Another unsuccessful attempt was made by burglars to break open the SBI ATM at Chinar Gali. The burglars had later set afire the ATM. Another similar attempt was made on September 2, 2015. Sources said police would be writing to senior CISF officers for taking action against the cops who had failed to detect the ATM theft. Police suspect the hand of some drug addicts in the incident. |
