Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 3: Last rites of four members of a Samba-based family came to a tragic end on Wednesday with just three mourners at the cremation ground. As per reports, hundreds reached the funeral but only three men including Mara Ram's son Rakesh Kumar were allowed by the district administration to come closer to the cremation and burial sites due to fear of shelling by Pakistani Rangers.
The Jammu and Kashmir has administration requested people to stay away from border villages amid fear of shelling from Pakistan and have urged them to move to a safer place. Among the eight killed in Rangoor village in Samba sector on Tuesday, Mara Ram (60), his youngest daughter Anju and two grandsons by his other daughters have been reported dead. Rangoor village is just 200m from the Indo-Pak border fence and the border outpost of Kamor Forward. They were hit by the splinters of 82mm mortar shells from across the border.
As per reports the kids Rishab (7) and Arun (5) who were killed in the shelling were buried due to their young age. "It was a tough decision for us to stop people from attending the funeral of the old man as the villages have a tradition of offering financial and emotional support at times of joy and bereavement. But we can't take the risk as Pakistan broke the practice of firing at night and instead shelled heavily at 7 am," said Ramgarh tehsildar J K Sharma .
Mara Ram's son Kumar, with both legs fractured was seen weeping inconsolably as he screamed slogans of revenge against Pakistan. TOI quoted Sharma saying, "I will tie all assault weapons around myself and fire at insensitive Pakistanis. My life has no meaning. My wife, my kids and my mother are grievously injured. I don't know if they will survive".
A 19-year old girl had been killed in firing by Pakistan in Ramgarh sector of Samba district. Pakistan has been continuously firing in Jammu and Kashmir, drawing strong retaliation from the Border Security Force. On October 31, one Army jawan lost his life in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistani troops resorted to firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC).
As per reports, there have been more than 60 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the LoC after Indian Army launched surgical strikes on seven launching pads on the Pakistani side. The shelling has caused major fatalities in Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
On October 29, another BSF jawan, Nitin Subhash was accidentally killed while retaliating to ceasefire violation in Macchil sector. Nitin sustained critical injuries when an explosion inside the chamber of the long range weapon led to a recoil while he was firing.
