Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 3: The tech-savvy and social media addict Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof. Ramji Dass Sharma, knows little or nothing about happenings in the campus. Having kept his sole focus on non-issues, Prof. Sharma doesn't know that some scholars, students and faculty members allegedly consume liquor, gin and beer within the campus. A stark indicator of this consumption is the empty cans of beer, bottles of gin, rum and whisky which can be easily found in various corners of the university campus. An Early Times investigation has found that empty beer cans of Kingfisher, bottles of V2O Vodka, Kingfisher whisky, Old Monk whisky Zingaro Beer are lying in the vacant spaces outside various departments of the university. Not only this, even used condoms were found lying in the green lush gardens outside the departments whose faculty members and heads are known for their simplicity, honesty and dedication. Investigation further revealed that these drinks are mostly enjoyed by students within the campus. A faculty member said the students and scholars do consume these brands but the same is not allowed inside the campus. He said a strict ban has been imposed on liquor consumption within the campus "but who cares when the scholars and students enjoy the same in the company of faculty members." Referring to a faculty member, he said, "He was the first who started this practice of drinking within the campus. He would sit till late in the night and drink, sometimes in the company of scholars and at times, all alone. He was followed by another faculty member. Now, he has stopped drinking but the practice continues without any break." He stressed that empty cans of beer, bottles of gin, rum and whisky clearly show how callous the university administration is. Prof. Sharma, who is nowadays busy finding ways and means of adjusting a VVIP's wife in the university, doesn't know that 100 meters from his chamber are empty cans of beer, bottles of gin, rum and whisky. Insiders accept that the VC's favourite pastime these days is denying facts and ridiculing whosoever criticizes his style of functioning. "His self-belief of being extraordinarily honest and all others being 'thugs, blackmailers and corrupt' is his USP," claim those who are his eyes and ears in the university. |
