NFSA, suppliers' disinterest hits ration supply to Nari Niketan, Bal Ashram | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 3: Poor participation of suppliers in tendering and bidding process to provide ration supply has brought the functioning of Nari Niketan, Bal Ashram and Blind School R S Pura to a halt. Moreover, due to implementation of National Food Supply Act, (NFSA) in the state, over 80 inmates from the three institutions are facing hardships. Sources said that in the month of June tenders were invited, but due to poor response from supplier the process was hanging in balance. "Due to fluctuation in market rate, the suppliers are not participating in the bid", sources said. Now these institutions have been left in the lurch. "There are 33 inmates in Nari Niketan, while Bal Ashram has also same number of inmates. The Blind School has 24 inmates," sources said. "MLA, Dr Gagan Bhagat, under whose constituency these three institutions fall, has never bothered to see what the inmates are facing," sources added. Meanwhile, sources said the Social Welfare Department (SWD), the caring agency of these institutions, is mulling to introduce e-tendering system for procurement of ration including pulses and allied material. Sources said that internal arrangements have been made untill the tendering process is completed. "Deputy Commissioner, Jammu has constituted a purchase committee to procure ration from open market to meet the requirements", they added. When contacted, District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu, Vipin Bhagat said that despite delay in tendering process, supply is being made regularly. "The department will soon invite tenders through e-bid. Earlier, the tenders were being invited manually and poor response from suppliers has affected supply", he said. |
