Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 3: The Board of School Education (BOSE) on Thursday announced that it would conduct examinations of Class 10 and 12 in the Valley on notified dates with open choice in question paper as relaxation. It also announced changing examination timing from 1 pm onwards instead of 11 am onwards as previously notified. Director BOSE, Zahooar Chatt, while addressing a press conference said the board exams would commence on notified dates from November 14-15 in the interest of the students to give them ample time to prepare for competitive exams. "We have decided to conduct 10 and 12 class examinations on notified dates only to save academic career of our students by conducting exams and declaring results well in time. This is the only purpose with which we have actually initiated and started working on the date sheet," Chatt said. "We have now decided to go ahead with notified dates in November as we found no alternative to it other than giving open choice relaxation to the students to prevent their career from getting derailed," Chatt said. He said the students who appeared in exams conducted after the 2014 floods are still bearing the brunt of late examinations as at the end of 2016 they have appeared in only one semester in university education while they should have been in the fourth semester. "This Oct-Nov session gives edge to our students by providing them six months time to prepare for competitive examinations held usually in the month of May and June, while Class 10 students enroll themselves provisionally for 11th class to start senior secondary education," he added. He said the board exams for 10 and 12 class are not only conducted for students living in Srinagar city and its adjoining areas, but the exams of students living in far flung areas like Gurez, Tangdar, Machil and Keran are also being conducted at the same time. "Most of these areas remain cut off during winter season and conducting exams during winters in these areas is not possible". The students have been demanding relaxation in terms of question paper and "we have taken the difficulties currently faced by the students into account and have designed question papers," he said. He said the questions papers have been redesigned after they were set as according to the normal pattern which consists of four sections long answer type, short answer type, very short answer type and multiple choice questions. "But now we have decided to give children open choice as against internal choice and allow them to attempt any 50 percent from every section except language papers like English, Urdu, Hindi and others wherein we are allowing them to attempt any 50 percent among all questions as in these papers as there are no sections," Chatt said. He said it consumed them a lot of their time to redesign question papers as 12 class has 36 subjects saying, they had to made this exercise in all of these sections independently as most of the subjects vary in max marks. Chatt said the Board has decided to provide helpers to the candidates who have suffered injuries in the ongoing turmoil subject to the condition they possess medical report and submit an application with this office demanding for a helper. He said they have till date no information to conduct examination of any of the students enrolled for 10 or 12 class from jails. Chatt assured the students and the teachers of safety to allow smooth examinations saying, "The state apparatus has assured us of taking measures aimed at safeguarding the students and the staff to help conduct exams smoothly". |
