Abid Pampori Early Times Report Doda, Nov 3: Despite announcements by two former Chief Ministers and a Cabinet minister, the people of several villages in Doda are waiting for the elusive bridge for more than 30 years. The people of the areas like Mohalla, Khankoot, Balwana, Parshola, Barshalla, Breswana said that former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his visit there in 2007 had announced construction of the bridge at Harshi. But nine years on, the project is yet to take off. Earlier in mid-80s, former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah had also announced bridge at Harshi, but to no avail. The people said that former R&B Minister, G.M. Saroori had also made a similar commitment to them. Some local inhabitants like Riaz Ahmed, Dharam Singh, Shabir Ahmed and Sanjay Kumar told Early Times that despite making big announcements, nothing has been done to mitigate their sufferings. Spokesperson of Doda Development Front, Ishtiaq Ahmed Dev warned the government that if the construction of bridge is not started at the earliest, the front will come on the roads. President Doda Welfare Society, Mohammed Iqbal Balwan said that due to non-availability of bridge the patients have to suffer more as it takes long time to reach District Hospital, Doda. |
