Minister for PHE reviews PHE's developmental works, locals protest | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Nov 3: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control reviewed the developmental works of the PHE department and issued instructions to the lower rung officials to perform their duties with dedication to provide people uninterrupted clean drinking water supply while locals staged protest alleging . While minister was reviewing the functioning of the PHE department, on the other hand people of village Androla were holding protest before the office of the Executive Engineer, PHE alleging the water supply to their area has been snapped for the last two months due to some technical snag. They furhher alleged that official concerned are least bothered about their problems. One of the protestors, Ashok Kumar, said, "Our repeated requests have fallen flat till today and if the department fails to restore the water supply within next few days, the people will block Jammu-Poonch highway." "While people in many areas in Rajouri district facing acute shortage of drinking water and are forced to collect contaminated water from natural sources leading to water borne diseases, the officials are just keeping their eyes shot to the real problem," said another protestor Rakesh Sharma. Meanwhile instructing the PHE officials the Minister directed them to conduct daily visits to water treatment plants and monitor the situation regarding capacity and treatment procedures so that the people may get 24 hours uninterrupted clean water supply. Minister for PHE also informed the officials that the present government believes in practical achievements rather than paper works and we have sufficient funds for the developmental works. Executive Engineer, PHE informed the Minister that out of an outlay of RS 359 lakhs till date 269 lakhs have been released out of which Rs 61.76 have been spent on the Water supply schemes. In Nowshera, PHE sub Division many water supply schemes have been abandoned due to non-availability of required funds, said a PHE official on annoymity. Pertinently local from Nowshera , Kalakot, Sunderbani, Rajouri , Darhal, Thanamandi , Manjakot etc have also been complaining of shortage of drinking water and there were reports of protests at times in this regard. |
