Students, Parents paranoid over school torching incidents, security of Exam centres | Chaos, Confusion casts cloak over Board Exams in Kashmir | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 11: As incidents of school torching in restive Kashmir Valley are witnessing a serious surge, parents and children appearing in Class 10th and 12 annual exams are petrified with concerns mounting about their security in the examination centers. Ironically, the JKBOSE has set up several examination centres in volatile areas including downtown Srinagar's Nowhatta and adjoining places. Wards of kids while expressing serious concern over the absence of any normality in the overall situation in Valley have asked the government to understand the complexity of the situation from their perspective and from the perspective of the innocent kids. "You are coercing students to appear in the exams. It is fine until there are no incidents of violence taking toll all across in Kashmir. Who would ensure the safety of our children? See how schools are being torched by the unruly mob. Is there any guarantee that such people wouldn't attack our children inside the exam centres? For God’s sake understand that those appearing in exams are not the grownups- they are the little kids," lamented a delegation of parents. The children too were paranoid about the ongoing crises in Valley- stating that the education ministry has failed to deliver goods on ground as school torching incidents continue in Valley. "Even there are examination centres that are being attacked by the mob- this is ridiculous and the government needs to address this issue at an earliest," says Aamir Rasool, a student appearing in Class 12th exams onNovember 15. Adding more chaos to the already perturbed situation, the JKBOSE has hinted at declaration of the Class 10th and Class 12th results in March. It has said that it will announce the position holders after another session of exams shall be held in March. "Does it mean that our kids who would endanger their lives to appear in exams will have to wait till March exams are over? Does that mean that they cannot enrol themselves in higher classes till that period? This is seriously not done. The disturbance that education sector is witnessing in Kashmir during the present period has never been witnessed in the past. Such a turbulence is worrisome," says a Kashmir based Research Scholar. Meanwhile, as confusion continues to cast cloak over the conduction of the annual exams in Kashmir, parents and students have asked government to ensure security to their kids in the examination centres. "We want to ask the education minister that is he assuring us that our kids will not be hurt. BOSE has set up the centres in several restive areas- who will provide security to our kids," says Hameeda Bano- a parent. Pertinently, on November 8, the J&K government told the High Court here that it was not possible for it to provide security to each and every school in the Valley, but added that a "comprehensive plan" had been put in place to secure school buildings. "There are 15,000 schools in the Valley and we have categorised each in three categories as hypersensitive, sensitive and normal. Most of the schools are located in densely populated areas, where in it is humanly not possible for us to deploy the static guard," Additional Advocate General Bashir Ahmad Dar told the court. |
