Fed up with Hurriyat, Kashmiris look for alternative leadership | | | Early Times Report srinagaR, Nov 11: Though the separatist Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani has extended the strike call in the Valley till November 17, the ground situation is totally different. A common Kashmiri is disillusioned with bandh and strike calls, which have paralysed the Valley for last four months since the killing of dreaded Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani on July 8. According to sources, the majority of people in the Valley are opposed to the bandh calls but are helpless as the civil society is not mustering courage to come openly against the separatists and terrorists. Sources said various small organisations and their leaders who are fed up with the role of Hurriyat and its leaders want to checkmate them but due to lack of proper support from government and silence maintained by the political leadership has forced them to remain indoors and not to come openly to challenge separatists. Sources said Kashmiris are perturbed and disturbed as it is not only the future of their children but the economy has received a great jolt during the four months of strike which was called during the working season of summer. Sources said common Kashmiris like traders, house boat owners and others linked to tourist trade say the season which was peak period of doing business has been wasted and now there is no fun of lifting the strike as the trade can't flourish this time which is the off season. Cursing Hurriyat leadership these people in their separate meetings want to defy them but have no alternate leadership in sight which can take the cause of people in a right perspective as the political parties which are in opposition are also dancing to the tune of Hurriyat to take on PDP-BJP coalition, sources added. Sources said under these circumstances the common Kashmiri is totally perturbed as he has no alternative in sight and he has no alternative except to surrender before the dictates of Hurriyat. Sources said Kashmiri traders, transporters who have taken bank loans in lakhs are perturbed as they are unable to repay the installments for last four months now and the banks have started seizing either their properties or the properties of their guarantees. Sources said this has created a piquant situation for them and due to lack of support to those leaders who want to take on Hurriyat and separatists and fight their ideology on ground have no support from government and fearing attack by militants they are forced to keep mum and see the drama created by prophets of doom. Sources said people in small groups in Kashmir are discussing the situation and want that some one should take a lead to take on separatists who have destroyed Kashmir and put the future of younger generation at stake but no one dares to come forward as the mainstream opposition parties are also dancing to the tune of separatists to over throw the coalition government. Sources said on the other hand the government is also not showing any interest to encourage those smaller groups who have courage and guts to take on Hurriyat and separatists at this juncture due to which the stalemate continues and Hurriyat is in commanding position to rule the roost. |
