Greater need for effective enforcement of laws of land :Gupta | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 11: Stressing for plugging the sources of funding of the terror and sedition in the border State of J&K, the former union minister, Chaman Lal Gupta observed that replacing of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes could have some surgical impact but for durable check there is greater need for effective enforcement of the laws of the land. Commenting upon the decision of the Government for demonetizing the currency, Gupta said that it was a known fact that black money and fake currency are causing many problems including that of insurgency, violence and other anti national activities. In the Valley even the youngsters are being employed for stone pelting and other acts of disturbing the peace by using fake currency. And thus, they are being misled to commit double crime-viz-the violence and spread of fake currency, he added and stressed for stern action against the perpetrators. Gupta said that many problems in Kashmir have assumed grave proportions but for vacillating policies and lack of will to strictly enforce the laws for past many years. In this connection, he recalled that in the State Assembly itself in reply to a question it was revealed that as many as 27 cases of fake currency wee registered in 2013 in which 51 persons were found involved and fake currency notes of over Rs. 26.81 lakhs were recovered. For a long time such recoveries and arrests have been there but hardly any accused was punished under law and the malady was going on with little actions. He also pointed out huge sums are pouring in Kashmir through Hawala, Foreign Indian Currency Network (FICN) and other channels to fund the what is called as " Jehad" and the "movement." Several such cases were registered and lakhs were recovered but no accused was punished under law. Similarly many cases of drug abuse and narcotics smuggled from across the borders were registered and several persons arrested but it is a matter of scrutiny that how many of them were convicted and jailed. Gupta said that to overcome the problems in J&K as also elsewhere It needs to strictly enforce the laws. And the infection about circulation of fake currency, there is also the need for attention to be given even to some bank employees, as there have been complaints about recovery of fake notes got from banks. This aspect should also be given due attention, while striking at the roots of this serious problem of funding the evil. |
