Jammu, Dec 10: Residents of the Gandhi Nagar locality are having sleepless nights with sudden increase of theft incidents in the area. A gang of thieves has been active in the locality for quite some time now. The area, it seems, is turning unsafe for the residents and shopkeepers. The irony is that the local police officers have turned a blind eye to the situation and are still unmoved to identify and book the thieves and cheaters. Latest in this series, a gang of four women thieves entered the Khawaish boutique behind Laxmi Narayan Temple, Gandhi Nagar, in broad daylight yesterday and stole garments worth around Rs 70,000. According to the owner of the boutique Kiran Kour, she had gone out for lunch when four women, whose have been caught on CCTV camera, executed their plan. "The tailor was alone in the boutique when the incident took place. The modus operandi adopted by women thieves was that one of them kept the tailor occupied in talks while others stole the garments by covering them under their shawls," Kour said. She added that it had become a routine in the locality where such cheaters and thieves were executing their nefarious plans without any fear because the police have never taken such incidents seriously. In another incident, on the night of December 8, burglars broke into a mobile shop, Digital Mobile Clinic, in the same locality and decamped with electronic items worth Rs 5 lakh. "The burglars took away about 80 mobile handsets, a laptop and other electronic items with them. In this regard, the owner of the shop has also lodged a complaint with the police," the locals said, who accused the police of "inaction". |
