| Influential doctors manage attachments in city hospitals | | Worst state of affairs in J&K's Health Services | | Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, Dec 10: The shortage of doctors and para medical staff has added to problems of patients coming for treatment to District Hospital Kishtwar from different far flung areas of the district. Despite the tall claims of the Government to fill up the vacant posts of doctors and para medical staff in the hospitals and health centres of the State, many hospitals are still facing the shortage of doctors as the influential doctors and para medical staff manage their postings in city hospitals. There has been such a nexsus between some doctors and paramedical staff with authorities that though posted in far flung areas they mange their attachments in city hospitals or medical college while the patients in the rural belt continue to suffer as they are neither the concern of government nor the public representatives who are elected to legislative bodies because of their vote.
The situation according to sources has worsened to such an extent that in various hospitals there is no doctor to treat the patients. Not to talk of doctors even para medical staff is not available in various rural dispensaries in general and remote areas in particular with the result the nursing orderlies treat patients, sources added.
Sources said that even the duty of gynecologists in health centres in rural belt are performed by the nursing orderlies despite the fact that the doctors are posted in these hospitals but they ange their attachment in city hospitals, sources said.
Not only the dispensaries in ruler belt face shortage of doctors and ara medical staff but even the district and Sub District Hospitals are also confronted with the same problem. The District Hospital Kishtwar is worst kind of example in this regard. The district hospital which caters to the needs of the patients from a vast farflung area sans the post of radiologist said Shamsher Singh Bhandari senior Congress leader of the area, adding even the hospital is confronted with shortage of para medical staff. Despite the repeated pleas to authorities they failed to pay heed to the problem with the result people are forced to rush to medical college Jammu or other private hospital.
Turning tables on Government even the Government failed to keep the commitment in establishing a mother care child hospital and nursing college in Kishtwar. Though the announcement was made a long back by the Minister of Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat he failed to keep it with the result the patiens are suffering.
Bhandari in an appeal has urged the government to keep the promise made with people of Kishtwar by estabishing the mother child care hospital and nursing college in the town.
The callousness in Health and Medical Education Department can be gauged from the act that in Butwani Ganderbal the BMO Wakura ordered that the health centre should function round the clock by issuing roster orders for doctors and para medical staff. During the course of night shift a para medical staff female employee working under NHRM who happens to be the daughter of an influential person was also asked to perform the night duty, sources said, adding this hit the ego of the local leader who took up the issue with the authorites in civil secretariat demanding that the concerned BMO be shifted and posted in farflung area for daring his daughter to perform night duty and including his name in the roaster. The concerned BMO has not issued roaster duty orders for Butwani Health Centre but other health centres in his block asking doctors and para medical staff to remain available during the night. This has been against the interests of the staff who are ganging up seeking transfer of BMO so that no one can force them to perform the night duty. This is the sordid state of affairs in J&K's health services whose health is itself deteriorating day by day. |
