Terrorists looting banks to survive | Demonetization Aftermath | | Financial institutions seek security, mull engaging private agencies
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 10: The demonetization move has left the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir high and dry. To overcome the financial crunch terrorists have started looting the banks and during the past few weeks many banks have been targeted. Sources told Early Times Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapping Rs 500/ and Rs 1000/ notes have put the terrorists in a tight spot and they are finding it hard to run their operations and sustain. "There are reports that many over ground workers and locals have deserted the terrorist outfits due to shortage of funds," they added. Sources said that to overcome the financial crunch terrorists are now targeting banks and are looting the financial institutions which are located at the isolated places. "Terrorists have been told by their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) that they would have to look for ways and means to survive till some other channels are activated to restart Hawala transactions," they said. It's in place to mention here that increasing attacks on banks have sent the alarm bells ringing. Recently security agencies issued an advisory asking the banks to beef up the security around their institutions. Sources said banks and other financial intuitions' are contemplating to hire private security agencies to thwart any misadventures. "We have sought the security from the authorities if they fail to do the needful then we have no other option other than handing over the security of the banks to private agencies," said a source. A Kashmir watcher said, "During the past five months of unrest Pakistan had pumped in lot of money into Kashmir to trigger violence in every possible way. The money with terrorists and the small time criminals has turned into mere pieces of paper as they couldn't do much to exchange it." He said, "Separatists in Kashmir have told their aides clearly that they should not ask for money till the situation improves and their mentors start sending money through alternate means." An analyst said, "Terrorists looting banks is nothing new. It has been happening in Kashmir for the past 25-years. Whenever terrorists got a chance they attacked the banks and decamped with whatever they could lay hands on. Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapping the old currency notes has put the terrorists and their handlers in a tight spot. India cannot sit and relax after the demonetization move as the neighbouring country which has been fighting a proxy war for the past 27-years by turning Kashmir into a battlefield won't leave any stone unturned to somehow provide the money to the terrorists operating in Kashmir." |
