Edu Deptt caught in red tape, courtesy minister | Files gather dust in mantri's chamber | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 10: The working of Higher Education Department has been virtually caught in red tape, as several important files have been gathering dust in the chamber of the minister concerned for months together. The Public Service Commission (PSC) had completed interview process for appointing principals for government degree colleges nearly three months back. The PSC had forwarded the file to the Higher Education Department for the Minister for Higher Education's nod. But till now, the minister hasn't spared time to decide the fate of that file, sources told Early Times. An incharge college principal regretted that few of the professors, who were interviewed and were eligible for posts, have now attained age of superannuation. "Now the decision of minister will be of no use for those disgruntled lot who retired without confirmation as principals", the incharge principal said. Moreover, the Higher Education Department had reportedly forwarded the names of few professors for the appointment of Vice Chancellors of two cluster universities, including Cluster University of Jammu as well as Kashmir. But for the last over one month, that file also has been gathering dust due to reasons best known to the minister. Sources said on one hand the department had failed to effect transfers of several influential college lecturers rehabilitated in city colleges and have been enjoying overstay for last many years in violation of transfer policy. On the other hand, it had also failed to adjust the newly recruited Assistant Professors. "The list of Assistant Professors for Biotechnology, Computer Sciences and History was forwarded by the PSC but to no avail", sources said. There are many other files that have been gathering dust in the chamber of the minister. "Officials of the department are unaware as why there is an inordinate delay in clearing these files," sources said, adding that the working in the department has come to a grinding halt for last many months. |
