Residents of Talab Tillo protests against traffic department | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 10: The residents of Talab Tillo area today staged a protest demonstration against the traffic department and blocked road near Gole Pulli, demanding strict action against erring drivers. Irate residents castigated the traffic department of not taking erring drivers seriously. They said that drivers in Jammu city, especially on Talab Tillo road, violate all the traffic norms and they have no body to ask. "The erring drivers yesterday crushed a minor to death and this is not the first time such thing happened. The traffic cops never bother to take such drivers on task, who continue with overloading, speedy driving and without proper documentation," said protesters. They further demanded that the police must ensure proper mechanism for matador drivers and once a driver is found guilty, his license must be terminated. Meanwhile expressing serious concerns over poor implementation of traffic rules and regulations in Jammu city, Youth National Conference on Saturday demanded stern action against erring drivers in the wake of growing accidents involving mini-buses. Youth National Conference Provincial President Ajaz Jan and functionaries of the District Committee while expressing grief over the death of a boy in tragic mishap in Talab Tilloo by a rashly driven minibus, saying this is fourth such incident in the area and the authorities seem to be in deep slumber. "We expressed deep sympathy with family of deceased boy who left at the tender age, " Jan said. He expressed anguish over the callousness of the administration and the Traffic Organisation, saying the concerned have failed in containing this menace. Mr Jan wondered over neglect of the Traffic Police in enforcing norms, as the mini-bus operators are seen plying vehicles amid blaring music and without wearing uniforms. "There are credible reports that some of the drivers ply vehicles without licences, as they seemingly enjoy impunity", he said, adding that despite presence of traffic police such violations are taking place brazenly. "We demand implementation of traffic norms in letter and spirit and action should not only be taken against erring drivers but also against those who remain mute, " he said. |
