Eid-e-Milad celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across state | | | Early Times Report
Jammu & Srinagar, Dec 12: The Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, birthday of Prophet Muhammad, was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region. Despite chilly weather, lakhs of people, including women and children, joined night-long prayers in shrines, mosques, Jamia masjids and other religious places in the valley. The separatist organisations, spearheading the agitation in the valley, have announced relaxation in the strike today in view of the festival. The main congregation was held at Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal shrine, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad on the bank of Dal Lake. Thousands of people from different parts of the valley and outside the state joined the night-long prayers in the shrine despite sub zero temperature. After night-long prayers, devotees have the glimpse of Holy Relic after morning prayers today. According to shrine management, devotees will have the glimpse of the Holy Relic after every prayers throughout the day today. The authorities had made all arrangements, including transport, water, medical and electricity for the devotees. Large number of private organisations have also set up facilities for the devotees. Vendors had also set up their stalls outside the shrine complex. The traffic police has already announced traffic routes for devotees to avoid any traffic jam. Meanwhile, similar congregations were organised in the shrine at Jenab Sahib Soura, Shahree Kalashpora, Kabamarg and other religious places. Majority roads and business hubs were decorated on the occasion and people were being provided " sharbat" and other sweets. Similar congregations were also organised in Leh and Kargil besides Drass in Ladakh region despite below freezing temperature. Non-muslims were greeting their Muslim brethren on the occasion. Meanwhile , a rally was organized by Muslims on the eve of Eid milad un Nabi. Rally started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park to Kathua masjid. Thousands of devotees participated in this rally. During the prayer the Muslim devotees said that we before the Nabi for peace and prosperity of the country be with the message that peace and brotherhood maintained in the country. While interacting with media, Md Ayub Sabari informed that the Prophet's Birthday, or Milad un Nabi as it is commonly known in Muslim culture, is celebrated in most of the Muslim countries and in India as well. The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated in the third month of the Islamic calendar. While the Shias celebrate it on the 17th of the month, the Sunnis celebrate on the 12th of the month, according to the Islamic calendar. Sabari added that the celebration of Prophet's birthday is believed to have its origin on the 8th century when the Prophet Muhammad's birth house was converted into a house of prayer by Al-Khayzuran. Al-Khayzuran was the mother of a caliph, Harun-al-Rashid. Eid milad un nabi was celeberated with full enthusiasm in Jammu as is celeberated all over the world in which the lovers of Prophet Muhammad displayed their love towards their prophet in a very attractive manner. There was chanting of slogans everywhere amid the huge gathering. Likewise every year under the leadership of Allama Sabir Nayeemi, the traditional congregation was witnessed which started from Sarwal chowk and after passing through many places finally gathered at Jama Masjid Eidgah, Ramzanpura Janipur. While on the way the rally was welcomed by all the people from all sections of society. |
