Poonch, Dec 12: Shaheedi Yaadgar, a memorial raised in the memory of those who laid their lives for the nation in Mendhar town has been surrounded by garbage and filth, bringing disgrace to the martyrs. The memorial came into being after the Indo-Pak War 1971, as a mark of respect to the 6 civilians who fought with the Pakistan army shoulder to shoulder with Indian Army in the Indo-Pak War in 1971. People rue that while it should have been the moral duty of citizens and the civic body to maintain the memorial and it surroundings. " When the places dedicated to our brave hearts are not maintained, what can be expected for the rest of the town?" asked Waqar Ahmad, a local. He also lambasted at the people who threw garbage and fifth around the Shaheedi Yaadgar. "We must promote the cleanliness initiatives inside as well as outside our homes. It is only army which cleans it once a year when wreath laying ceremony is organized, he further said. Mendhar Youth Club chairman, advocate Nadeem Khan urged the higher authorities to ensure that the sanctity of the memorial raised in the memory of the heroes was maintained at all costs. |
