Patient care severely hit in peripheral areas of Rajouri

Rajouri, Dec 12: Mocking at the tall claims of the state government of providing better healthcare to the people at the peripheral districts, out of sanctioned 341 sanctioned posts of doctors, for 275 health centres in Rajouri districts , 173 posts are lying vacant. Most of the health centres in the district are being run by the doctors appointed under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). Government has sanctioned 235 posts of doctors out of which only 80 doctors are present in the district while 155 posts are lying vacant. In Kandi health block of Rajouri district which comprises far of villages, out of sanctioned 27 posts of doctors, 22 posts are lying vacant while 13 posts have been sanctioned under NRHM. Recently inhabitants of Budhal and its adjoining areas held a protest demonstration against the health department alleging that the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Budhal sans basic facilities including staff and medicines.
"The CHC is mainly being run by the pharmacist as the doctors are rarely available. Medicines supplied by the department are not easily available to the patients and they are asked to purchase the medicines from the market" said Mohd Mushtaq. During his recent tour to Rajouri district Health Minister had directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure that the patients should get free medicines in the government hospital. But most of the doctors were prescribing the medicines from the open market and the touts of the private medical stores can be found roaming in the hospitals including district hospital to trap the patients/ attendants.
Recently Medical Superintendent district hospital warned these touts not to enter the hospital premises.
Dr Mehmood, BMO, Kandi denied any such allegation and said every possible health care and free medicines were being provided to the patients at the health centres under his jurisdiction.
