Separatists may end hartal calendar

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 12: The separatists are most likely to call off their hartal calendar in the Valley following pressure from the people.
The separatist may drop the same in their next round of 'protest calendar' which they issue on every Wednesday since the agitation began in July.
According to sources, there is an intense pressure on the separatists to end the hartals on account of two major factors. Firstly, they have become meaningless as all educational and commercial establishments are running smoothly even at few yards from the Hurriyat office despite the shutdown call.
Secondly, after taking Kashmiri people for 'ransom' for about four months, there are no takers for it and people are now openly flouting it, which was earlier unthinkable .
It's for this growing concern that the top most separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been under pressure from the locals and also from others to call off this hartal culture.
A first sign of it came when the Hurriyat appealed the yatris and tourists to visit Kashmir without being afraid of anyone.
"The appeal was made as per the design and new set of programme after intense pressure from the locals. The appeal though has not been well received and also questioned but it sent a signal to the locals that something is offing. And more particularly even a section of locals who shared sentiment of separatism are now getting turned off and this is something very serious," said an intelligence official.
Source said that new direction of calling off hartals is also in line with the new thinking among their handlers in the Pakistan. Intelligence officials says Pakistan is also calibrating new response to the Kashmir policy of the Modi government after its desperate attempt to flair up unrest in the valley and heavy fire along the LoC failed to make Modi government buckle under pressure.
"Separatists have been asked to call off the strike culture till new set of programme is devised by Pakistan which too is now feeling the pinch of the stratagem of Modi government to strike back hard," said the official.
