Srinagar, Dec 12: The government has decided to send two IAS officers, who are currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir, on a central deputation as a punishment posting.
Top sources revealed to Early Times that proposal to send the two officers on central deputation is at the final stage. "Their departure could take place before the Budget Session of the Assembly," said sources.
Sources said one of the top babus is being sent on central deputation in view of slow pace of progress of the works the department headed by him.
The officer in question along with two other IAS officers had returned to JK last year after state government had requested the Centre to depute all state cadre IAS officers in J&K in the wake of a major shortfall of bureaucrats. He was also posted at the Chief Minister's office from where he was sent to a key department.
Similarly, sources said, the state government has decided to send another bureaucrat on Central deputation because policies framed by his department had "embarrassed" the government.
Also, former minister had entered into a verbal dual with the bureaucrat over a controversial order. The former Minister had said the officer "without having the knowledge about the whole issue had passed this order which shows his incompetence".
With the sending of two more IAS officers on central deputation there would be further shortage of officers in the state. J&K is facing a shortage of around 60 officers, affecting the functioning of the governance as many bureaucrats are holding two to three charges.
J&K has strength of 137 IAS officers of which 75 are direct recruitments while the rest are promotion posts. According to the official figures, J&K is presently having 88 IAS officers of which eight J&K cadre IAS officers are on central deputation and some are on probation.
The State Administrative Council (SAC) under the chairmanship of Governor N N Vohra earlier this year approved the proposal submitted by the General Administration Department to increase the strength of the J&K Cadre of IAS from existing 137 posts to 145 posts.
