Influential hoteliers violate HC directives | In Pahalgam, PDA facilitates transportation of construction material | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Dec 14: With PDA authorities facilitating the transpiration of construction material, the influential and blue-eyed hoteliers have yet again resumed illegal construction works in South Kashmir's picturesque Pahalgam where High Court has imposed a blanket ban over the constructions. Reports said that taking undue advantage of this cold season, violators in league with the officials of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) have resumed the process of dumping construction material at Pahalgam. They said that PDA officials always remain active of these illegal activities but instead of taking action they 'facilitate' the transportation of construction material to Pahalgam in violation of High Court directives. Insiders told Early Times that while action is being taken against people found violating the court orders but few who enjoy patronage of politicians and bureaucrats are being spared and are being allowed to carry on the construction works. "Yesterday at around 9:00pm, a Srinagar based hotelier was allowed to transport a truckload of marble and plywood by PDA staff at Toll post," A PDA official whishing anonymity said. "Staff at PDA toll post isn't at fault. They are being directed to allow some blue-eyed hoteliers who are dumping the construction material these days," he added. Sources within the PDA, revealed that huge construction material including cement, timber for paneling of rooms, marble and other constructional material stands dumped in Hotel Shehsnag at Pahalgam. "He enjoys patronage of an officer and politician because of which PDA hasn't dared to seize it," sources said. They said that similarly, a local resident on behest of Srinagar based businessman started constructing a hotel in Ganeshbal Pahalgam. Raising questions over the double standards of PDA, locals also alleged that 'influential' are being shielded and allowed to carry on construction works. "Poor are being punished, FIR's are being registered against them and also they aren't being allowed even to carry out minor repairs, "they alleged. When contacted, PDA CEO Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani admitted that he too has received reports from his field that a particular hotelier has dumped the constructional material. "On receiving this information I raided the hotel and seized cement in large quantity," he claimed. |
