Mehbooba sets her own agenda, cares little about Centre's policy

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 14: The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has decided to reach out the people of the Kashmir with reconciliation in mind which is in line with the party's policy of 'healing touch.'
She has asked the police forces to start differentiating between terrorist and his families.
Political observers believe that she has decided to pick up the threads to also send a message that she holds independent line on Kashmir and is not bound to follow the line of Central government.
The CM while addressing a police passing out parade in Kashmir said, "Now difficult and turbulent phase is over where some hard steps were taken the time has come for the Police to distinguish between perpetrator of violence and his family."
She also said that a difference has to be made between a terrorist and his family and also on how and when the PSA is to be used, clearly pointing out that it can't be used randomly.
"The CM first decided to announce to ex-gratia relief to the family of Burhan Wani, as his brother had died in cross-firing. Though the death of the Burhan Wani resulted in massive unrest and violence but by including his family she has clearly spelt out she stands by the policy of 'healing touch' and PDP hasn't abandoned it. And is also independent of the Centre's policy in handling Kashmir," said a senior cabinet minister.
The CM faced lot of criticism due to more than 90 persons dying in Kashmir unrest and secondly after her outburst at the press conference in Srinagar, in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, wherein she clearly said that even small kids who were throwing stones at the army camp had not gone there to get 'toffees'.
"This statement created furore in the Valley with everyone criticizing her. But we must also try to understand the trying circumstances in which she was placed. But now that things have started cooling down, she has decided to adopt a soft approach. This may not sound nice to her alliance partner-BJP- but she has sent the message that she doesn't need to take dictation on everything from the Centre, unlike her predecessor. And it 's for this reason the Centre has not till now objected to including the family of Burhan Wani in the list of the people who were provided ex-gratia relief," said the minister.
