| Land mafia enjoys privilege, hundreds kanals of land encroached in connivance with influentials | | | Sushil Dutta

Rajouri , Dec 14: Hundreds of Kanals of state land around Rajouri town have been allegedly encroached by some influential people and political activists of different political parties.
Encroachers have also grabbed land around district hospital, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), government girl's higher secondary school and other government institutions.
Sources said that some of the encroachers have constructed shopping complexes and other business establishments by demolishing the decades old government buildings in connivance with Thannamandi Muncipal Coprporation and politicians involved in it .
It has also come to the notice of people that some patwaries have tampered the old revenue record, with forged signatures of concerned officers & police and revenue authorities have closed their eyes, reason best known to them.
Sources said the audacity of the encroachers can be gauged from the fact that one such encroacher has demolished a residential quarter of forest department adjoining the official residence of Tehsidar Rajouri and constructed a shopping complex there .
The matter came to light when few days back some locals brought same into the notice of forest minister during his recent visit to the district.
A clerk working with the forest department got a forest quarter allotted adjoining to the residential quarter of Tehsildar Rajouri in the name of his wife Parkasho Devi some years back .This quarter remained in her occupation for years together even after the retirement and death of her husband. In the year 2003 Parkasho Devi with the help of some people demolished the government quarter and started the construction of a shopping complex over there.
This is not an isolated case of illegal construction or the encroachment of the state land in Rajouri district .Few years ago, the government had purchased some 15 kanals of land for the construction of a girls higher secondary school in Malmandi area but the present structure of the higher secondary building constructed there exists on three kanals only. The rest of the land has been grabbed by the residents from all sides. The construction of shops around the district hospital Rajouri from post-mortem room of district hospital to the hospital stairs by the well known politicians and other influential persons is an eye openers.
The encroachment of scores of kanals of land belonging to the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Khewra area is another stark example of what the sources said that officials are silent because the encroached in this case is a top politician. |
