Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 14: Martyrs Day function at Kathua two days back brought to fore two diagonally opposed lobbies of BJP led by two leaders, thanks to Forest Minister Lal Singh's style of organizing events which only made it obvious and conspicuous. Lal Singh also made it abundantly clear that he believes in one man show events all to his benefit and advantage and that he still moves with the spirit of Congress culture politics in having allegiance with just one stalwart in the party and ignoring the rest of lot.
Sources said even though Forest Minister Lal Singh who has been organizing this Day every year, managed it this year by keeping Union Minister and son of the soil Dr Jitender Singh in loop one hand and inviting none other than the country's Home Minister Rajnath Singh as the chief guest for the function, absence of almost entire lot of BJP ministers from the function raised many eyebrows. The absence of Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh from the function became all the more conspicous for the fact that it was an event attended not just by the Home Minister but a leader who is counted among top three leaders in the hierarchy of ruling party at this time, sources said.
The function was attended by just one BJP minister Abdul Ghani Kohli even as party President Sat Sharma made it to venue, no matter with what aim and guiding spirit. Lal Singh gave an impression it was all his own show and apparently used the platform to display his show of strength, sources said this was important for him in the wake of his 'graph' as a minister having come down. However, projection of Jitender Singh on the forefront of the things for the function kept Dr Nirmal Singh away, both being seen in two lobbies and not getting along well , sources said.
Sources further said while Deputy Chief Minister being second in the hierarchy of PDP-BJP alliance government should have been there as a matter of protocol , he stayed away on the pretext of attending the function in Punjab, it was actually for certain political reasons and his incompatibility politically with those at the helm which kept him as also his supporters away from the function. Lal Singh while projecting it as his own function kept the ministers and a whole lot party workers at distance from the function even though they desired to be there on account of the presence of country's Home Minister there, sources said adding that this is being seen as his 'distinct' style of working and his belief in Congress culture of having on board just one stalwart of the party.
