Over 30 tehsils headless, blue-eyed attached in cities | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 14: Over one dozen tehsildars are reportedly enjoying stay in capital city, whereas over 30 peripheral tehsils across the state are headless for the past many months, creating hurdles for gullible masses. Sources informed Early Times that over 30 tehils headquarters across state are headless for the last many months. Out of these vacant tehsils, maximum are the newly created administrative units and fall in peripheral areas of state, where the officials refuse to visit, sources said. They informed that instead of streamlining the system, the Revenue department has rehabilitated many blue-eyed tehsildars in Jammu city instead of sending them to peripheries. "In Migrant Relief Organization Jammu, there are only 7 sanctioned posts of tehsildars but since August 2016, a total of 17 tehsildars are working there", sources said, adding that 10 tehsildars have been enjoying attachments. Moreover, in the Divisional Commissioner office Jammu, two extra tehsildars have been enjoying stay, with their attachments in the office of Divisional Commissioner. "Though there is shortage of Tehsildars in the state as after the constitution of new administrative units, the workforce is not available and the Revenue department has forwarded the posts for recruitment under Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) but despite that some arrangements can be made", sources said. They opined that at least the excess workforce of tehsildars, who have been enjoying stay in cities, must be transferred to the vacant posts of tehsildars in peripheral tehsils. "Most of headless tehsils are in far flung areas, due to which the people of these areas have to face lot of hardships as for obtaining Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), various other revenue documents, a tehsildar is the authority and in his absence either the people have to move to other tehsildars, who is given extra charge of neighboring tehsil", an official said, adding that the attachment of these teshildars, must be cancelled and should be posted to the headless tehsils. Secretary of Revenue Department Mohammad Ashraf Mir said that they had mooted a proposal to send the tehsildars to headless tehsils. "The process of electoral rolls is on and we had taken up the matter with the Election Commission to transfer the tehsildars, which has so far not responded over the matter", he said. |
