Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 14: Traffic was restored on the national highway, the only road connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley. Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country and historic Mujhal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained through despite rain. However, traffic on Mughal road is being allowed only during the day. A traffic police official told that traffic on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway was restored following improvement in the weather. Traffic on the highway was suspended yesterday following fresh snowfall at Sonamarg, Zojilla pass, Zero point and Meenmarg. However, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the snow. He said later vehicles from both sides were allowed to move towards their respective destinations in the afternoon. However, only one way traffic is allowed at Zojilla to avoid any accident or traffic jam. Since the road is becoming very slippery in the morning and late in the evening only day traffic is allowed on the highway now. |
