After CM's clarification, separatists to go slow | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 9: The separatists facing flak on opposition to the settlement of the Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley have decided to go slow on it. The separatists have called for protests on Friday and shutdown on the Saturday. However, after clarification by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that KPs won't be settled in separate colonies, the separatists have decided to go slow on it. The separatists were aiming more at the BJP rather than the PDP for this plan. However, their game plan of starting a stir and creating disturbance over the issue, like in 2008, hit the rock bottom. "Even Pakistan didn't approve of this game plan. Pakistan is trying to improve relations with the India. PM Modi had also praised the efforts of Pakistan in bringing some stranded Indians from Yemen. So at this time Pakistan didn't want to offend Modi, and this message was send to the separatists, who after all controlled by it," said a senior police official, wishing not to be named. Another reason was that hitting out at the return of the KPs would have conveyed the message that Pakistan is acting against the sentiments of the Hindus. "Modi had strong backing of the Hindus and Hindutva leanings. Attacking it would have meant Pakistan is targeting this community; this would have not only offended Modi but even would have made him furious. Pakistan realizing how the Modi government reacted after separatists met the Pakistan High Commissioner last year, acted in a prompt manner to amend its plan," the official said. The game plan of the Modi government is to make an atmosphere for the return of the KPs to the Valley. The BJP had come to power to bring in some fundamental changes in the state polity. It got the mandate for it and would not let this go waste. "BJP wants to bring change in polity and perception about the party in Muslim-dominated Valley. It wants to send the message that it is not hostile to Muslims, but at the same time it is not receptive to anti-India feelings. The return of the KPs is part of this game plan and the reactions would further help in drafting the government policy on it," said a senior BJP leader, wishing not to be named. |
