113 scribes enjoy Govt accommodation in JK 4/9/2015 11:11:09 PM Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 9: As many as 113 journalists are in possession of government accommodation as several genuine scribes have been denied the facility. A government reply stated that 113 journalist working with local, national dailies, electronic channels as well as with international media are enjoying government quarter facilities at capital cities of Jammu as well as in Srinagar. In reply to AQ.No 31 of MLA Er. Abdul Rashid, seeking details of accommodation provided to various Journalists for residential/Office purpose in the state, the government reply issued by Under Secretary to Government Information Department on behalf of Minister for Information reveals that 113 Journalist are enjoying government accommodation facility In Jammu and Srinagar. As per government reply, 28 Journalist has been provided the accommodation by government estate department in various areas of the winter capital, while 77 journalists enjoyed the same facility in summer capital Srinagar. Besides 28 and 77 journalists, 8 scribes enjoy accommodation in private accommodation under 38-Est of 2014 order dated 3-2-2014, 116-Est of 2014 dated 16-06-2014 & 34 Es of 2013 dated 17-1-2013 wherein the government fixed rent to the tune of 49700, 21600 and 37140 per month. In Jammu two journalists enjoy the government perk in private accommodation for which estate department pays 20400 per month as rent. After scrutinizing the details provided in the government reply, many journalists enjoyed the government accommodation both at Jammu and Srinagar while in some case a journalist was awarded the accommodation benefits in both Srinagar and Jammu on different media organization. However no young journalists who are presently active in the field manage to get the government accommodation.
