Early Times Report

rajouri, Apr 9: Fifteen small hamlets in the village Taryath in District Rajouri are on the verge of water scarcity, courtesy the appeasement bouquet extended by the then National Conference MLA to his blue eyed in installing a filter plant near to his house leaving nearly 12,000 people in lurch.
As per the latest position in the village Taryath, two filter plants of PHE exist with one almost defunct and the other proving to be a big failure in satiating the water supply needs of the village.
The Public Health Engineering Department had sanctioned two filter plants for the village carrying different gallon capacities ,but exercising his influential powers the then National Conference MLA Rachpal Singh got the heavy duty pump installed near the house of one of his blue eyed which got wrongly placed, thus denying the whole village the free supply of the water.
" One fitter plant of 10,000 gallon capacity sanctioned at Rs 40 lakhs was released in 2004-05, the work for which got completed by 2008-09. Another with a low capacity of 5000 gallons capacity was sanctioned in 2011-12 , the work on which was completed in 2013-14," said sarpanch Muzzaffar Chaudhary of village Taryath who charged the then National Conference MLA Rachpal for using his ill means in appeasing his blue eyed got the other one installed near his house thus depriving the people of the water needs.
"The then MLA used his influence and got the filter pump wrongly installed at a place not feasible of equitable distribution of water which has led to the scarcity of the water to the entire village. Besides though the department's cost of installing both the pumps was put at Rs 67 lakhs, crores have been drained out through the manipulations while the people still reel under water shortage," said Muzaffar Chaudhary.
Executive Engineer Noushera, Vinod Gupta when contacted said that since the village does not falls into his jurisdiction, the detailed report for the same could be had from Assistant Executive Engineer Rajouri only.
When reminded that since the work executed in installing the filter plants was the work of the division level, the XeN again tried to relate the onus on the AEE only
Rajeev Gahi Assistant Executive Engineer Rajouri also played safe saying that everything regarding the procurement and installation of both the pumps have been done judiciously and have been installed at proper places.
"We are quite short of the man power to operate the water supply in these villages regularly. We have many a times submitted the demand for the same, but have not been heeded. Besides , the erratic power cuts due to incessant rains and weather vagaries generally hamper the smooth flow of water supply at many times ," was Rajeev Ghai's lame excuse .
Meanwhile different deputations from all 15 hamlets of village Taryarth in district Rajouri met today under the leadership of Sarpanch Muzzafar Chaudhary which is likely to submit a memorandum to the PHE minister Sukhnandan Bali for speedy address of their problems.
