KUPWARA, Apr 9: The final judgment in the brutal Tabinda Gani rape and murder case is expected to be pronounced here on April 18th. Sources told Early Times that after hearing the final arguments from both the parties, Principal and sessions judge district Kupwara Muhammad Ibrahim closed the case and informed the court that he will pronounce the final judgment on April 18. Tabinda Gani, a class 8th student, was found dead in an orchard in Langate area on July 20, 2007 after her abduction. Medical reports had confirmed that the abductors had raped her before slitting her throat, sources said. Following the incident, Kashmir witnessed massive street protests with people demanding capital punishment for the culprits. Police had later arrested four accused including two non-locals and a local residents of Langate area in Handwara tehsil of Kupwara district.However the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. While as the family is still awaiting justice for seven years now. The last witness in the case had admitted before the Session Court Kupwara that the four accused held for raping and murdering the girl were paraded before the eyewitnesses and the people including a minor during the parade identified the culprits. The last (86th) witness in the case, then Naib Tehsildar Langate, presently Tehsildar Abdul Rashid Shah appeared before the session court for the fifth time and during his last turn, he confirmed to the court that all the accused in the case were properly identified by the witnesses during a parade. He had identified the culprits as Sadiq Mir alias Sadiq Choor, Azhar Mir alias Bilal both residents of Langate, Jehangir Bihari of West Bengal, a carpenter by profession and Suresh Mochi, a cobbler. Both the Public Prosecutor G.M.Shah and the counsel for the accused Abdul Rashid Mirchal said that the Sessions Court will pronounce its judgment on April 18. Meanwhile Early Times learnt from sources that, the father of Tabinda Gani has said that he is sure of getting justice from the court of law on April 18, and they don't want anything but justice for their innocent girl. |
