Pending dues: Taxi operators, Transporters protest against police deptt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: Demanding early release of outstanding dues from Police Department against hiring of private vehicles during assembly polls, the transporters/taxi operators alongwith owners and contractors today held a protest demonstration at Tawi Bridge Jammu. The transporters threaten to ghereo the Civil Secretariat in winter capital if their payments are not made at earliest. The protestors also blocked the ever busy bridge for about one hour forcing police to resort mild cane charge to clear the bridge for normal traffic. The protestors alleged that Police Control Room (PCR) Jammu had hired various vehicles for the smooth movement of police personnel during Assembly Elections-2014 across the state but till date no payment has been made to the transporters compelling them to live from hand to mouth. "At the time of hiring of vehicles, it was assured by the PCR Jammu that timely payment will be made but six months have passed, they alleged adding, "no payment has been made baring few blue eyed contractors who were hand in glove with the higher authorities ignoring the rest." The protestors also alleged that transporters have already submitted representations to IGP Jammu ADGP and also to Director General of Police for the release of payment but all requests were turned to deaf ears till date. The transporters have warned the Police Department if their payment is not made at earliest they will be left with no option but to hold a massive protest against the police department and also to ghereo the Civil Secretariat in winter capital. |
