Sai Mandir devotees, locals hold protest | Demand reconstruction of bridge over Devika river | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Apr 9 : Majority of devotees of Sai temple alongwith local residents have expressed concern over the delaying tactics of administration in initiating the construction work of bridge over Devika nallah near Sai Baba temple in Raghunathpura which was washed away eight months back in September last year. Local residents today held protest demonstration near Sai Baba temple under the leadership of temple priest Mahant Swami Mangal Dass raising anti-government slogans demanding immediate constriction of bridge over river Devika . Speaking on the occasion temple priest Mahant Swami Mangal Dass said that the Devika Tawi bridge got washed away due to flash floods in September 2014 and till date no progress has been made due to which residents of the areas are suffering badly. He added that despite assurance of Deputy Commissioner that work on bridge will be started shortly nothing was done even after lapse of eight months. He stated that majority of devotees and local residents are suffering badly as it is only shortest link to temple and entire city. He added that people are worst sufferer during rainy days. He threatened to launch fast unto death if work on bridge is not started within fifteen days . Local resident Govind Ram Sharma and Rakesh Arora alleged that despite sanction of amount for construction of bridge nothing was done on ground. They sought attention of local MLA and MoS Finance to direct the concerned executing agency to prioritize the work of construction of new bridge and execute it on fast-track basis. |
