Shiv Dev Thakur Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: The ill-equipped swimming pool that was thrown open for public use and sports activities has once again become the subject of discussion as even after spoiling four seasons in a row, State Sports Council has yet no plan to make it operational this summer also. The facility, as per an invitation card circulated by the council joint secretary Siddharth Sharma during the erstwhile Omar government, was to be made operational by then sports minister Raman Bhalla on July 17 last but it is an irony that the pool is yet to be renovated in all respects. Sources rued that opening of the pool was just an eyewash as it was half renovated and the inauguration was unjustifiable. Sources said that against the council rhetoric to open the swimming pool for public use this month, the same is still incomplete. Shreya Sharma, the parent of a swimmer, criticized the council and said, “It had taken a wrong decision to open the half-renovated pool last year.” Sports officer Rajan Sharma, when contacted, said that the pool was undergoing renovation and it was not possible to open it in April. In reply to a query, he claimed, “We have strong instructions from the office not to disclose the date of opening of pool to anybody.” |
