Students prefer private institutions to Govt run schools | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq Early Times Report BARAMULLA, May 8: There has been surge in students preferring private educational institutes than government schools due to lack of professional teaching staff and imparting Science streams which is pre-requisite in competition ahead for students in 21st century, due to callous attitude of government ,students suffers a lot here in Government Higher Secondary Nowgam Kandi in Baramulla district. Sources told Early Times that, "the surge has been more in the government schools which lack professional teaching staff in certain streams and essential facilities like Science Laboratory, Library and other pre requisite facilities of education. The Government Boys Higher Secondary School Nowgam Kandi is classic example of this exodus. Academic session is going on and the school authorities are baffled and are apprehensive that students like past few years won't turn up for new admission in class 11th in this higher secondary, said sources. In 1962 primary school was established here in Nowgam Kandi and then in 1975 it was upgraded to middle school and in 2002 to High School and simultaneously higher secondary in 2010 and from last five years posts of Lecturer and Principal were not created, due to which students suffers a lot, sources added. Sources said that majority of the students are approaching for provisional admissions to the higher secondary school for class 11th return disappointed after they are informed that the school is without a computer laboratory, Science Laboratory and without Medical, Non Medical, Computer and Commerce streams. Keeping in view the vast scope of information technology, the students intending to get admission are hell bent upon to choose the streams," the sources said adding that after getting a cold response from the administration over the issue, the students return and join privately established higher secondary institutions wherein they can avail such facilities, sources informed. Sources further said this is happening due to the lackadaisical attitude of the concerned education department towards the school and the department is dilly-dallying the issue which is impacting the careers of many students," sources further said. "Though few subjects of Arts stream are being taught here in the institution by the teachers at the higher secondary level, but Sociology, Political Science and Education subjects were not added in Arts stream and there are no Medical, Non Medical, Commerce and Computer streams at all. The irony is regular Rehbar-e Taleem (RReTs) are teaching students of Arts Stream. Meanwhile early times has learnt from sources that this is the only Higher Secondary for dozens of villages like Sultanpora, Nowgam, Givegaran, Shivpora, Rajpora, Doudbugh, Nilsar, Bandi Balla, Nagbal and other adjoin areas of Kandi belt. Ghulam Nabi Wani Incharge Principal GBHSS Nowgam Kandi told Early Times that posts of lecturers are lying vacant for many years, since it's up gradation in 2010. There was no creation of Lecturer and Principal Posts, only school was upgraded to Higher Secondary in 2010, we are facing hardships and have to attend a school that has insufficient staff. Infrastructure and the staff strength were not improved as per requirement. School management cannot do anything other than exhibiting helplessness. However nobody pays heed to our representations, we have intimated the higher ups several times in past but to no avail," Wani said. |
