JAMMU, May 8: Stunned by the over-whelming response to Jammu bandh call on April 24, the "shell shocked" BJP leadership has taken party ministers in the coalition government to task for their failure to connect themselves with common masses. The BJP leadership is worried over the way walled city-especially Jammu East and Jammu West constituencies, had observed total shutdown on April 24 against BJP and party leadership is of the opinion that it is reflection of the eroding base of the party.
Credible sources said that on the first day of the two days "conditioning camp" at Katra on Friday, BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal has reportedly expressed his anguish over behaviour of party ministers in the coalition government. Ram Lal, who was briefed about entire development by the Sangh leadership, availed this opportunity to give a veiled warning to the party ministers that organisations would not tolerate any attempt to sacrifice party's ideology for the lust of power.
Ram Lal, who is RSS man in the BJP, is reportedly not happy over the way BJP has been losing its base in Jammu region so drastically, especially after formation of coalition government with PDP. He asked party ministers to mind their ways otherwise party high-command has to take some extreme steps because for government in J&K, BJP could not afford to lose its base in rest of the country.
Sources said that Ram Lal made it clear that BJP has formed government in J&K not to allow some party members to enjoy powers but to give a message throughout the country. He, sources said, regretted that negative message was going all over the country so there was a need to change style of functioning.
Credible sources said that some party workers have complained about style of functioning of some of the party ministers who have been ignoring genuine workers and giving importance of power brokers and touts. "Party workers also informed Ram Lal that organisation in the state has become defunct and entire state unit is busy in enjoying power", sources said and added that workers pointed out that ministers usually avoid visiting party office and they are more comfortable in enjoying felicitation functions instead of working for the party.
BJP leadership is a worried lot these days due to feed back received by the high command that anger against party is brewing in Jammu region due to failure of the leadership to come up to the expectation of the people. The way Central government is changing its stand on controversial issues there is resentment among common people in Jammu region. |
