Bad roads, not separatists pose challenge during Amarnath Yatra: IGP Jammu | | | K Koushal Early Times Report Jammu, May 8: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Danesh Rana said on Friday that it would be bad roads, not separatists, which will pose a challenge for police department during upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Addressing media persons here, Rana said, "We are not much concerned about the actions of the separatists. Our major concern is the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, which is in very bad condition. The road has been sunk at many places, especially at Kheri and Nasheri." The IGP was apparently talking in reference to the Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's demand for restricting Amarnath Yatra to 30 days. "Extra shelter homes can be put in place while Mughal Road can be used for Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) of Amaranath yatris as weather and roads will be the major concern for the police department during this yatra," said the IGP, adding that most of the places the roads have sunk and weather is expected to create problem. The IGP said that SPs of each district have been instructed to keep vigil in their respective areas. He further said that after the Rajbagh attack, "we are not confined to the only known infiltration routes and police is working on different angles to understand the strategy of the infiltrators." Meanwhile, IGP also informed the media that he has sent a proposal to Director General of Police (DGP) to establish a full-fledged rehabilitation center for drug de-addiction in Jammu which would cater to entire province. He said that a big piece of land has been identified at Samba which would have facility of outdoor sports, meditation, yoga and other recreational activities so that patients (addicts) will get congenial atmosphere and recover from this menace. |
