4 yrs on, Sarfu's death still a mystery | | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, May 8: Though the police claim to have arrested, Preeto Devi, a widow of the infamous trans border narcotic smuggler Sarfu Ram with narcotics, but the Sarfu's custodial death at Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC), Miran Sahib Jammu which took place on August 18 2011, is still a mystery. The undertrial, Sarfu, was found hanging from a window of Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Jammu. He was brought to JIC for interrogation in connection with a case of unlawful activity on August 12,2011. Following his custodial death, then Executive Magistrate S Charandeep Singh, constituted the one-man magisterial panel to probe the circumstances which led to his death. A public notice was issued in which general public was called upon to appear before the one-man inquiry panel to share any information or proof connected with the incident. The probe reportedly refuted police's statement that Sarfu committed suicide by hanging himself with his trouser in police lock up, family of Sarfu alleged that he was murdered as he had named some police officers involved in trans-border smuggling. A post mortem was also got conducted in this regard to know the exact cause behind the death of Sarfu Ram , but despite hue and cry the postmortem report was not made public. Meanwhile, if the administrative sources are to be believed, Sarfu's custodial killing report, its findings prepared by the one man magisterial probe was dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, but the same was not tabled, the reason best known to Home Department, they said. However, with the mysterious death of the Sarfu the alleged nexus between senior police officials who hold high positions in Jammu and Kashmir and smugglers who used to smuggle narcotics from Pakistan which could have been exposed was buried as he had once worked as source of the police. |
