At CUJ function winner's name replaced with 'blue-eyed' candidate at eleventh hour | | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 8: The prize distribution function at Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has came under scanner after the name of winner of a competition was found replaced by some 'blue-eyed' candidate at the eleventh hour. CUJ administration on Friday organized the prize distribution function, in which winners of Annual Sports meet and Uddan festival, held nearly two months ago, were given prizes by Vice Chancellor. "In the on the spot photography competition, according to the results which were announced by the judges during a function organized at the auditorium hall, Sushil Kumar, a student of Mass Communication and New Media was declared third," sources said. They said that students were shocked when they noticed that the third prize was given to a student namely Sushil Kumar Shivaji of Human Resource Management rather than Sushil Kumar of MCNM, whose name was mentioned in the lists circulated in all the departments. When the shocked students enquired about the blunder committed by the managing committee, they were told by a faculty member that she had only announced the name of the students, according to the list given by the authorities. "According to the list in possession of the faculty member, who was comparing the event, the name of Sushil Kumar of MCNM was struck off with red pen and name of Sushil Kumar Shivaji of HRM branch was written," the sources said. "When some students again took up the matter, the authorities tried to hush up the matter and said that they would also give prize to Sushil Kumar of MCNM to avoid any controversy," they said. "How it can be possible that name of the student was deleted at the eleventh hour and that too when all the lists were published and circulated among all the departments. It is a deliberate attempt by some faculty member, with ulterior motives. Either the culprit tried to defame the CUJ or indulged in favouritism," the sources said. They also alleged that there were some departments in the university whose faculty members were in the panel of judges and organizing committees for the events and they deliberately ignore talent of students from other departments and help their own department students. Assistant Professor of Mathematics Department Dr. Pavinder Singh, who was in-charge of event, told Early Times that if there has been any mistake committed, it would be rectified. When asked if there was any deliberate attempt, he put the blame on students indirectly and said that students were also involved in the entire exercise of prize distribution function and it could be an error. He refused to order an enquiry into the matter. |
