Avinash Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, May 8: Doctors of GMCH Jammu are in dilemma as the Income Tax they had deposited to tune of nearly Rs 40 lakhs has allegedly been swindled by some officials. According to sources a major income tax scandal has surfaced in Government Medical College and Hospital here where in 104 doctors received notices form IT department, directing them to deposit their tax, otherwise action would be taken against them. "Each doctors has pay Rs 40,000 as income tax for year 2013-14, if counted the tax deposited by doctors account for Rs 40 lakhs for the FY 2013-14. All doctors had reportedly paid the taxes, the scandal surfaced, when during scrutiny IT department served notices to 104 doctors at GMCH", the sources said. "I was surprised, when I received notice from IT department Bangalore, for allegedly not filing my IT return", said a senior doctor seeking not to be named and added that income tax had been deducted from his account by the accounts department of the hospital. He said that it was more shocking, when came to know that 104 doctors have been served notice for not filing their returns. "I m not single person, who was served notice by the IT department, there are 104 doctors, who received notice despite following the rules", he added. The doctors suspect that officials of hospital's accounts department have swindled the money they had paid. The doctor said that he along with other doctors had approached the account section to seek detils of their IT returns but nothing has been done so far by the authorities. "Accountant has swindled our taxes", alleged the doctor, adding the same year when the issued came into light the official spent a month in America. "It is difficult for an ordinary clerk to spend a month in America, we suspect him for the embezzlement. The scam is over Rs 40 lakhs, so anti graft agencies vis Crime Branch, Vigilance Organization and Income Tax department should take cognizance of the matter", said another doctor. |
