Infiltration bid foiled in Poonch, one militant killed | | | early Times Report Rajouri, May 8: Alert troops of 15 MAHAR Regiment manning the border in Balnoi sector in Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu region today claimed to have foiled intrusion bid by two mercenaries in Combat dress and killed one while another managed to retrieve to other side this morning. Troops have also recovered huge cache arms and ammunition including GPS System from the site during search operation. According to sources the unidentified militant reportedly was a hard core member of LeT outfit and both were assigned a task to attack frontline soldiers manning forward post before their onward journey. Reliable sources said that at about 8.50am the troops manning the Gian post in Nadedi Nullaha in Sona Gali area, noticed movement of two unidentified intruders heading toward own post. "Before the intruders could target the post they were challenged by the alert soldiers triggering gun fight between the armed militants and security forces which lasted for some half an hour. "The heavy firing which continued for some 30 minutes, troopers successfully eliminated one armed militant while another managed to flee back to the other side, sources said. After firing came to end the troops cordoned off the area and launched massive search operation during which Troops of 15 MAHAR under the aegis of Infantry Division recovered the body of the intruder and also recovered 1-AK rifle, 1-GPS system, 4-hand grenades, 4-AK rifle magazines and other assorted eatables including dry fruits etc.. The infiltration bid was foiled in the wake of repeated warning from senior most army officers at Rajouri /Jammu/Udhampur about the functioning of training camps and concentration of terrorist along launch pads near LoC and IB passing through the state who are desperate to infiltrate in Indian side especially from Mendher, Poonch and Sawjian sectors after melting of snow. Meanwhile, immediately after intrusion bid and reported ceasefire violation ground as well as air surveillance has been increased in entire Rajour-Poonch districts to track any other such attempt by the mercenaries backed by ISI and Pakistan army. |
